Earlier this month the Committee took over from the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) after a farcical March congress resulted in scenes of unrest and the refused entry of FIFA observer Frank Van Hattum.
It was the latest in a long line of embarrassments for the governing body of Indonesian football.
The Premier League is a break-away competition from the FA-backed Indonesian Super League and kicked off on January 8. A capacity crowd of 20,000 came to see its inaugural match between Solo FC and Persema.
Established as an alternative to the state-funded Super League in an attempt to improve the financial and organization standard of domestic football, the Premier League has now been recognized as legitimate.
“We made the decision to accommodate the IPL under the committee’s supervision until the end of the season,” said Normalisation Committe head Agum Gumelar.
Eventually a decision will need to be made about the future of the IPL, as only one domestic competition may operate within a country under FIFA rules.
On May 20 an election will be held in the wake of the failed election at the aforementioned March PSSI congress, with the newly chosen leaders of Indonesian football to either dissolve the Premier League or merge it with the Super League.
